New month, so I’m trying out a new Tarot deck! Every Tuesday this month, I’ll draw a card from my new Tarot Everywhere deck, a photo-based Tarot from Kristen at Over The Moon Oracle Cards. She says she was inspired to create the deck when she began noticing Tarot cards in the photographs at Unsplash.com. The title refers to the idea that, even though Tarot cards have been around since the 1400s, the archetypes depicted in the images are timeless. Tarot symbolism is all around us in the modern world. All we have to do is open our eyes to see Tarot everywhere.
She based most of the images on the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck (the Radiant RWS is shown to the right above), but used her own interpretation for some others. For today’s card, the 10 of Wands, you can see that the modern version is remarkably similar to the RWS image of more than 100 years ago.
The 10 of Wands — whether depicted by a drawing of a man awkwardly struggling to carry 10 heavy sticks, or a photo of a modern worker shouldering a huge bag of produce — is about feeling exhausted and overwhelmed by our burdens.
I think we can all relate to that feeling at times. Sometimes we can barely move under the weight of our responsibilities. The 10 tells us this is it, the end of the cycle, we’ve depleted our energy and we feel like we can’t go another step.
When life feels heavy, we have three choices: We can lay our burden down right where we stand. We can rearrange our bundle so it’s easier to carry. Or we can raise our heads and see that we’ve almost reached our destination. Sometimes when we know the end is in sight, we feel a burst of renewed energy and strength. We can rally and ride that second wind all the way home.
Just a few more steps, lovelies. You can do it.
