Move preparations are ramping up, and the Great Purge continues. Because my dad will move into the new condo by February 1st, he’s been getting my input on furniture, paint colors, etc., and I have to say, it’s exciting! For many years, my home was mostly furnished with hand-me-downs and it’s only recently that I’ve allowed myself to buy some things new. (Some things, like my Ikea bedroom dresser, were great buys. Other things, like a too-good-to-be-true couch and loveseat I bought on sale, not so much.)
For the living room, we chose this deep brown set we found at a Myrtle Beach furniture store called Seaboard. One of them is a sleeper for guests, since we won’t have a guest room:
We’ve settled on this dining table from Target.com:
And these awesome copper-colored chairs from Overstock:
I am seriously in love with these chairs. If I could I would order them right now and have them shipped here, but then my dad will have nothing to sit on in the new place! So I will have to pine for them and admire them from afar for now.
Since the furniture is mostly neutral tones of wood and metal, I want a bright pop of color in the area rug. I love this one from Savafieh:
I actually love their entire Nantucket collection. I’m thinking of getting a coordinating one in a different pattern for the dining area.
Meanwhile, here’s what I got rid of this past week (picking up after item 7 from last week):
- 8. Barbie doll
- 9. Box of daughter Chelsea’s stuff (returned to its rightful owner)
- 10. Pull-up bar
- 11. Set of metal reindeer
- 12. Box of old craft paints
- 13. Yucky old hose
- 14. A box of random cords and wires which I hope don’t go to anything important
- 15. Obsolete PC games
- 16. A bunch of CDs and empty cases
- 17. Computer speakers
- 18. Office supplies that I bought back in 2007 and never used. Probably for some organization project I never implemented.
- 19. Salt and pepper set
- 20. Huge painting
- 21. Old bra that I never liked and didn’t fit right and I still wore it for over a year!
So I’m up to 21 items and I’ve barely made a dent. I’ve tried to sell a few of the more valuable things online (a collector’s Barbie, a Fiestaware pitcher) but so far no takers. Also, I have so many books! I’m looking into trading some back to Amazon. I usually just donate to the library, but it would be nice to make a few bucks. My goal is for this to be the most streamlined, easiest move in the history of moves and I think I’m making a good start.
At the moment, my brain is packed full with move and Christmas, but after the New Year, I plan to devote some posts to health and wellness, specifically intuitive and mindful eating, so stay tuned for that!
