Music has incredible power to feed our souls, lift our spirits, and of course, raise our vibrations. I love music so much that I feel like my life has a soundtrack. I can often remember where I was the very first time I heard a favorite song, and some songs have the power to transport me back to specific places and times. I hear In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins and I’m instantly back in a friend’s basement in Ocean City in 1981, wrapped in a towel and wearing a damp bathing suit. Sugar Sugar by The Archies and I’m a little girl again, listening to records in the childhood bedroom I shared with my sister. Let the Good Times Roll by The Cars and I’m suddenly a teenager in Denver, on the way to the mall with my cousins.
We all have our very favorites…the ones that make you turn up the radio and yell, “Everybody be quiet, I love this song!” Those songs make up your personal High Vibe Playlist. I had so much fun last night preparing for this post, listening to music and watching old videos! It turned an average day into a magical one…such is the power of music to transform, transport and uplift.
My High Vibe Playlist could be much longer than this — I have so many favorites — but here are some I came across in my musical travels last night that never fail to make me happy:
Ob-La-Di Ob-La-da by The Beatles. Basically the entire Beatles catalog could be on my list but this one has a special place in my heart. Honestly, how could you listen to it and not be cheered up?
Livin’ On A Prayer by Bon Jovi. Great song and great video. The hair! The talk box! The flying! The sheer 80s-ness of it! Speaking of the 80s…
Girls Just Want To Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper. Such a happy song. And could she be any more adorable?
Learn to Fly by The Foo Fighters. I watched this video three times last night and I just watched it again just now. I heart Dave Grohl.
Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. Okay, this one is on every “happy” playlist and deservedly so. It’s catchy as hell.
Good Feeling by Flo Rida. When this one comes on in the car, you turn it way up and butt dance in your seat. Don’t deny it, you know you do.
I’m Yours by Jason Mraz. Such a simple and sweet love song. So much fun to song along with (especially the scatting). My favorite part is when he goes, “So please don’t, please don’t, please don’t…there’s no need to complicate.”
(Man, it’s taking me a while to get through this post because I keep listening to the songs!)
Feeling Good by Adam Lambert. Great classic song, but I’m partial to Adam’s version because, well, I’m partial to Adam. Listen to this and that note he hits at the end and tell me how in god’s name he didn’t win American Idol! (Yes, I’m still bitter, but whatever. Bygones.)
Rebel Yell by Billy Idol. Everyone who knows me knows this is my very favorite song. I’ve seen him perform it live 4 times and I hope there will be more. Plus, it features Steve Stevens (who still tours with Billy) and one of the greatest guitar solos of all time.
Okay, so that’s a fraction of my High Vibe Playlist. 🙂 What songs on your list? Let me know in the comments! Click here for a great compilation of 100 happy songs on YouTube for inspiration.
