This is one of my all-time favorite photos, of my late hubby Ely cuddling our fur baby Buffy (named after the vampire slayer, of course!). That’s pure love and happiness right there. She was 13 when he died, and didn’t last very long after. She never got over losing her daddy. They adored each other, and I like to think that wherever they are, they’re still together. I imagine that if there’s a heaven, it looks a lot like that.
I loved Buffy, but I was always more of a cat person. This is me and Carlos, who likes to drape himself around my shoulders like the world’s comfiest shawl. Carlos is a cuddler, and one of the best feelings in the world is when I’m lying on the couch and Carlos settles on my chest to curl up and purr. The vibration and sound of a cat purring at between 20 and 140 Hz has been scientifically proven to be healing to humans. It lowers stress and blood pressure, hastens healing of bones and muscles, helps fight infection, and lowers the risk of heart attack by 40%!
Of course, owning and loving on a dog is beneficial too. Dog owners get more exercise, develop resistance to allergies, have better heart health, and are much less likely to be depressed.
The benefits of pet therapy are so widely understood that animals are now used in many clinical settings to help patients recover and to minimize stress, pain and loneliness.
But of course, we pet lovers already know that the love and care we lavish on our pets is returned a thousandfold. Pets have their own life force, so from a vibrational standpoint, having well-cared-for and well-loved pets in a home raises the energy and keeps the chi moving in a vibrant and playful way.
If you don’t already have a beloved fur baby, get one. It will enhance your life and energy in ways you can’t imagine. If you do, grab that adorable creature right now and shower it with love. Pet it, snuggle with it, sleep with it, let it on the couch. Let it adore you and soak up the love.
Tell me about your fur baby in the comments!
